I hear it all the time- small businesses are having trouble getting clients. A lot of times it’s not exactly for the reasons they think it is, and here are some common mistakes people make, and ways that they actually end up overspending on their marketing.

The ways that people end up overspending are legion, because there are so many marketers out there selling them solutions. If you’ve been in business for any period of time, you’ve probably heard all the promises, and you probably have been burned, multiple times. I’ve seen crappy websites that are half done. People who have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on ad campaigns with 0 return, SEO for years with little improvement, and more.

And still they struggle with getting clients.

Here’s the thing- unless the right people know who you are, and what you sell, you’re not going to sell anything. You have to connect with the right buyer, at the right time. The more specialized your offering is, the more difficult it can be to connect at exactly the right time.
